Mr Mills first revealed his vision to have a large-scale artwork located in the Arts Centre at the entrance to the Secondary Visual Art block in Term 3 last year, to mark the upcoming 60th anniversary of Bangkok Patana School. He wasn’t sure what it should look like but knew that he wanted it to reflect Thai culture as well as being bold and colourful. To find the design, a competition for Secondary Art students on the theme of Thailand’s traditional and contemporary culture was held in Term 1, receiving many exciting artistic entries. The designs were presented to Mr Mills and the Foundation Board, where two students' proposals really captured their imagination.

The final artwork is the culmination of the work by Te Pungpapong (alum Year 8), Tahilia Constant, Year 9 and Ekaterina Rasskazova, Year 13, who combined their designs and collaborated to complete the mural you see today. The piece was then produced on a large scale by Thai artists Khun Nattapon Paha and Khun Akkarapon Munlod, who added their own personal style into the mix. We are very pleased with the final piece and very proud of the collaboration between students, staff and visiting artists that led to its realisation. Please stop by and have a look next time you are passing the Arts Centre.
